Gary,

That's enormously helpful. It also means that anyone can buy back and eventually (with the ultimate sale of the vehicle) that initial loss is taken into account. So the loss isn't "lost" forever. There's something about the way wash sales are usually discussed that makes it sound like the loss is lost forever, so this means people can buy back and while they may not get the loss that year, it'll be included in the ultimate "count" for all the transactions on the stock.
