I really wasn't expecting it to be that severe that far north so soon.

Hot weather and low, warm rivers have killed dozens, perhaps hundreds, of salmon, steelhead and sturgeon the past two weeks in northwest Oregon. Temperatures are dangerously elevated in the Columbia River as well. With no relief in sight, biologists expect the trend to continue, although much of the spring run has already made it upriver into deep holes, where they'll wait out the summer heat.

We haven't had any real rain since mid April. As a consequence, the moisture content in the soil is really low. And things are not working right climate wise. The Puget Sound is called Seattle's natural AC........when it gets hot, in the hi 80s/low 90s, the hot air in the interior of the state pulls the cool marine air off of the PS. That means fog for Seattle and a quick drop in temps. You see that effect up and down the west coast. And it normally does that even during El Niño years. Its not happening this year......no 'June gloom'. The next 15 days according to the weather service.........hot sun, no clouds and temps in the hi 80s/lo 90s.

>>The sheriff estimated 500,000 gallons of water was used per day just to sustain the plant count that was eradicated.<<

That's the ticket! All the former drug warriors can become water conservators!
