The "do nothing" crowd can only come up with solutions that involve arming everyone.

Good advice - works too - nearly every mass shooting occurs in a gun free zone. The NRA not only suggests training but conducts training, often free of charge. Learning the laws and safe practices. They also support strong sentences for criminals that use guns. The "do nothing" crowd as you claim is pro stand up and defend yourself - criminals cannot be expected to disarm willingly. That Oregon Clackamas Mall shooter stopped the moment he encountered a citizen with a gun and shot himself.

That makes about as much sense as putting out a fire with a powder keg.

Yeah - the fear monger liberals keep saying that - but never turns out that way.

Where were you when the AWB sunset and nothing happened?

How about all those concealed carry licenses with people having shootouts all over the place?

If the second amendment means anything at all, the last thing that should be done is register your guns with the government.
