Longnshort, why did the Fathers give us the 2nd amendment, who are the people the Fathers want to protect us from ? The problem with that argument is that the defense of this nation and our rights no longer rely on "well-regulated militias." Instead, it now relies on well-funded standing armies and law enforcement. A liberal can take that argument and say, "See? The 2nd amendment no longer applies. We should repeal it." However, I believe there is a more fundamental guarantee that the 2nd amendment provides, and that is the right to self-defense. "When you have only seconds, the police are minutes away." Such a right should be regulated so that people can be more responsible with their right to self-defense. Tenchusatsu
