7/10/15 Contest update Last Sunday’s austerity referendum in Greece was confusing for me. Oxi was No and Nai was Yes. Seemed like the meaning of the words should be reversed. And, in fact, even the Greeks now appear confused. Most are sure they voted No on the latest austerity package their Prime Minister, Alexis Tspiras, has proposed. Yet biotechs had a decent week, despite the still unsettled Greek crisis, the Chinese stock market crash and Donald Trump taking the lead in the latest national GOP presidential candidate poll. Yeah, I find it hard to believe as well. But here it is: thehill.com I should have known Republican voters would be impressed by Trump’s pledge to change his hairstyle when elected president. Meanwhile, at Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 36.34% YTD (vs. up 33.71% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index closed up 22.71% YTD (vs. up 21.99% YTD a week ago), while the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index closed up 35.48% YTD (vs. up 32.42% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 5.52% YTD (vs. up 5.77% YTD a week ago). DANIEL’s portfolio, up 90.60% YTD, held on to first place, with DEWDIL’s portfolio, up 86.40% YTD, still in second place and MCBIO’s portfolio, up 76.96% YTD, moving into third place. At the week’s close, 48 of the 51 Contest portfolios were in the black with 36 beating the NBI and 27 beating the SPSIBI.
