I've fished in Sheldon Reservoir and two lakes in Brazos Bend St Park. Those lakes all have alligators in them.

American alligators don't live in open bodies of water or rivers. They like swamps. The females need swamps to build their nests in the middle of a deeper area. Males like to dig out a deeper area also. When water levels are low, the fish and other animals concentrate in the deeper areas making it easier to feed.

If they are in a lake or river it is an accident due to flooding or other displacement. It doesn't suit their feeding habits so they are transitory only.

Good to hear. Gators could really put a damper on water skiing. Can one assume that gators are in most swamps/bayous in E. TX and LA?
