>> It might help explain why so few major companies come from that state.

Instead of the Civil War, had the North negotiated a settlement with the South which called for the end of slavery in exchange for agricultural subsides for, say, 30 years, the South's economy would be in much better shape. In effect, the Yankees came to the south and ripped out its economy by the roots.

Now, I'm not saying slavery was good or right or anything but evil. But it is an absolute fact that it was a key component of the southern economy and trying to recover from the sudden change in that economy left the southern states in a permanent economic doldrum that persists until this day.

So, when you criticize, you should understand that the South has had to endure difficult economic punishment for its wrongdoing in slavery and it is in spite of that that great companies like Walmart have succeeded.

AR population 3M Fortune 500 companies 6
WA population 7M Fortune 500 companies 8

Based on relative population size, WA should have 14 F500 companies. But they have only 8. Washingtonians must be pretty backward.

Illegal Alien Killer of Young Woman Chose San Fran as a Sanctuary City

Obama turned America into a sanctuary nation for criminals.

Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez, a seven-time felon who had been deported five times, is trying to build an insanity defense, claiming that he just 'found' a gun in his clothes which accidentally went off and killed Kathy Steinle, a young native woman, but he was clever enough to go to San Francisco because he knew its cops wouldn't hand him over to the Feds for deportation.

Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez said in a new interview Sunday with a local ABC News affiliate that he came to San Francisco because he knew the sanctuary city would not hand him over to immigration officials.

He also claimed that he was “looking for jobs in the restaurant or roofing, landscaping, or construction.”

Sanchez had initially told police he had shot the gun at sea lions ,ABC 7 reported.

“Sanchez said he knew San Francisco was a sanctuary city where he would not be pursued by immigration officials,” the report added.

Here's how the crime really went down.

A 32-year-old woman shot and killed in broad daylight in San Francisco has been identified as Kathryn Steinle, a former Pleasanton resident and Amador Valley High School graduate.

Steinle was walking with her father and a family friend on Pier 14 in the city's South Beach neighborhood Wednesday evening when she was shot in the back, said her mother, Liz Sullivan.

Sullivan told the newspaper that her 32-year-old daughter turned to her father after she was shot and said she didn't feel well before collapsing.

"She just kept saying, 'Dad, help me, help me,'" Sullivan said.

"She was so young. This is just like a bad dream."

And here's how San Francisco became a nightmare center for illegal alien crime.

I remember writing on it in 2007 here when then San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom (now Lieutenant Governor) announced the city would not cooperate with federal immigration “raids,” in keeping with a Sanctuary City policy adopted in 1989. Quoth the mayor:

“I will not allow any of my department heads or anyone associated with this city to cooperate in any way shape or form with these raids. We are a sanctuary city, make no mistake about it.”
The next year, the city’s sanctuary policy was shown for the danger to public safety it had become. On June 22, 2008, Edwin Ramos, an illegal immigrant with a history of violence, shot and killed Tony Bologna, 48, and his sons Michael, 20, and Matthew, 16, because he wrongly thought one of the Bologna sons was a gang rival. It turned out,

The killings on June 22, 2008, gained national attention after The Chronicle reported that city juvenile-justice officials, relying on San Francisco’s sanctuary-city policy, had twice shielded Ramos, a suspected illegal immigrant from El Salvador, from possible deportation after he committed a gang-related assault and an attempted robbery as a minor.

Attorney General Kamala Harris, then San Francisco District Attorney, made bad decisions that shielded violent criminals. As I wrote before Californians elected her Attorney General in 2010:

City officials refused to notify federal immigration officials when police arrested juvenile offenders – or offenders who claimed to be juveniles – on felony charges.

Under her watch (for lack of a better word), the city flew drug offenders to Honduras. When federal authorities stopped this practice in 2008, the city sent eight Hondurans who had been convicted to group homes, from which they escaped.

One Sunday afternoon in June 2008, San Franciscan Tony Bologna, 48, was driving home with his sons, Michael, 20, and Matthew, 16. All three were shot dead. Police charged Edwin Ramos, an illegal immigrant from El Salvador who had been arrested for several felonies as a youth but apparently benefited from the city’s liberal sanctuary policy.

So this is nothing new. The only difference is that Obama's illegal amnesty has made it a nationwide policy to protect illegal aliens from deportation. What Newsom and Brown did to California, Obama did to America turning it into a sanctuary nation for criminals.

It might help explain why so few major companies come from that state.

Well, there is Walmart. That great destroyer of local retail across the country. It single-handedly wiped out a major component of the middle class.

Which is why i-node approves of it.
