I dont think we need a recession for the market to tank. My guess is that a 5% chance of recession is probably linked to a 50% chance of low growth or something like that. I'd like to see a study on the relationship between the yield curve and growth and profits in general.

I don't think low long-term interest rates can actually cause a
recession (rather, these would help the economy) - they just
reflect the market thoughts about it. -Vi
