That's because it is a fundamental provision of Subchapter K that has been there forever for a good reason.

If they do change it, and they may, they will effectively be treating carried interests differently as an effort to "go after" a particular occupation, and for no other reason. Unless they change taxation of profits interests for ordinary people, as well, which doesn't seem likely.

It was recently discovered that Bill Clinton used some of the same tax avoidance that Mitt Romney used.

The media was pretty silent.
