I agree. Oil is in a slump but it is not being phased out. It cannot happen. There is nothing which can replace it in the near future. And the world is not going to come to a halt.
The Oil Sands is a large initial investment. But once in production the costs are cheaper than that of US producers. And as reserves it is second only to the Saudis. Suncor production costs is under $30 a barrel Fort Hills will be the same when completed.

Most of the Global warming hype is a farce. being pumped to the masses by people who are making fortunes by doing so. If it was so urgent as is suggested the US and other countries around the world would immediately suspend all coal operations. Which the use of is far worse than the Tar sands.

Before I would believe differently. Some one will have to show the oil consumption which took place historically and caused tropical vegetation and animal species to have survived in the Arctic previous to the last Ice age. Archeological discoveries have presented the evidence.

Canada politics is misunderstood by the majority. We unlike the US. Do not have a true form of Democracy. Instead our Majority governments are in reality, Elected Dictatorships.

For business and large companies it is very important to support and have in power right leaning administrations who favor their advancement. Both provincial and Federally. So I say again there is a lot of politics being played in Alberta at present.

Saskatchewan on the East with the right wing Saskatchewan Party led by Brad Wall, Or BC liberals under Christy Clark to the West, are also energy producing provinces. Neither are having equal cutback percentages in the industry which are being done and are planned over this governments term in Alberta.
The last thing business would want is to make the Alberta Government look great. And end up with a Federally elected NDP socialist regime come November.

I was no where near the size of business of Teck or these oil companies. But I can assure you the contributions made to help keep administrations in power. Who`s thinking was in favor of free enterprise or allowing business to prosper was worth every penny.
