Sonki, Re -- MERCED the Monopoly. As far as CPU's are concerned, and when merced is a success, it will be true. However, as Intel has discovered, the market is segmenting, with many small devices for specific functions, such as phones, cameras, pda's, settops/TV's etc.. The dynamics and requirements in this area is not clear as yet, and there are a number of participants, including LU and the "system on a chip" crowd. Intel's StrongARM may or maynot fit into this area. This "small" devices will take a few years to play out. Thus "monopoly" is only in one area. Re -- I am heavily in msft. my mutualfund is called wintelco. MSFT is more mature and a good long term bet, if the government will leave them alone. Cisco is the current leader in networking. However the networking industry is relatively young and undeveloped and things can change very rapidly (Especially with the hunger for more bandwidth, and Layer 3 switches providing price/performance advantages over routers, and displacing Cisco's major source of revenue and margins) Re -- I belive BIG mony will be in BIG servers, clusters, big iron. Yup!! Re -- I think this society likes slim people cuz it takes less money to feed slim people? I thought the trend was towards "big is beautiful". The question is not PC vs NC.. They are two different markets. Re -- 2. cpq vs. dell? If I knew the answer, I'd be an Analyst... Re -- Most imporatntly what do u say re: OS ? what would be the chocie OS for MERCED ? I think this is a question 5 years too soon. Keep an eye out and go with the flow. The internet is causing a lot of changes and shifting dynamics. Stockman
