One of the reviews says that many of the phrases originated in various other documents from around the colonies and other countries. It doesn't sound as if Jefferson did a lot of original thinking-merely cobbled it together. However, he was angry at the changes made in it by the congress to get it passed so I assume he had some pride of authorship.
I thought the part about it falling into obscurity interesting-until the 19c when it was pulled out and used as a political weapon. I guess it was originally more of a revolutionary tool than the excuse for humanism we try to use it as today. Just sounds like a fascinating book. So buy it and tell me all.
