GG.. actually it bothers me that Playstation is so successful and LSI is looking at a down quarter for earnings! If I understand the desk top game, the fact that NLV (or GIC?) gets the major contract for TCOMA's big buy in desktop boxes does not necessarily mean that LSI is cut out.. so I'm still looking for something out of that. And, as the Wizard was discussing a week or so ago, there is huge potential in the digital camera game.. Earlier projects, including the BBC chip, and the embedded DRAM project with MU, are of unknown potential.. And the router work for CSCO doesn't seem to offer volume production at this time. But with all the announcements, it is baffling that LSI is not getting the volume and the margins up.
Seeing that they are proceeding with the Gresham Fab, they must be confident of the future -- nothing worse for a semi co than to be running with a partially empty fab! Much of these positive developments, IMO, are going to come to fruition way out in 1999, so I'm settling in for quite a wait.. Beyond that, potential margin improvements could bring earnings up sharply. So LSI remains one of my long-term bets.
As for your question about where LSI manufactures the Playstation chips... Shane might know; will see what he thinks when he gets away from school activities. dlo
