B,
Re -- I have a feeling that you are wrong on 25c loss . I have my reasons but can't tell you why , suffice to say that it is not just based
on my speculation alone

I have my reasons, why what you are saying is utter and complete nonsense. Will let you guys know later.

Greg Nusance is closer to it than you.

greg & Brian, I know its common for companies to use the 4th quarter to take extraordinary non-recurring losses and restructuring charges, but they can't just willy-nilly expense things that should be depreciated, etc. There has to be a plant closing or a layoff, the abortion of a product or a writeoff of inventory to claim a non-operating charge. In AMD's case, they have none of these unless there's a 0.5 um plant someplace that they don't need anymore.

If there's no non-recurring charge to earnings, the last thing AMD would want to do is try to make their operating earnings look worse than they are, IMHO. A big loss would make Compaq and Legend Holdings think twice about relying on AMD.
