Because when you apply the Hayek and Mises prescriptions, bad things get worse. Now if only voters would shut up and do what they are told, we might find out if things get better after years or decades of pain. But the stupid voters keep throwing the guys with the prescription out and voting in those who will make the pain stop.

If only everyone was as smart as mindmeld. Alas, they aren't...

Because politicians like to do the easy, short term thing. When the population complains, it's easy to give them bread and circuses. Just like your kid has a meltdown in a candy store because he wants candy, the easiest thing to do is give him candy, instead of telling him no because it's bad for you and it will ruin your lunch.
