Craig, thanks for the news on this new research. I feel that the field of nanoscale technology will provide us with a big paradigm shift in technological innovations sometime in the next millenium.

For example, we may not use transistors in the future. We may actually manipulate wavefunctions of quanta in order to make electronic switches or logic gates. This can be done in an analagous way to our use of waveguides today but at the nanoscale level. It's a very fascinating topic but one that is very research oriented for now.

As you watch our lithography tools become more and more advanced and linewidths drop into the nanometer realm you may be watching the birth of the tools that will enable the next generation of technology beyond the mere transistor.

Impressive work. I am familiar with the Northwestern campus. My brother-in-law did his doctorate there and went on to become one of the founders of Optical Radiation Corp. This work by the Ho Group is almost beyond belief... Would love to be in on a startup using this technology! dlo
