They met the criteria of the people you say we shouldn't have monuments for: Shep: "And they still want to honor those who tried to destroy us and enslaved 4 million people, with flags, statues and buildings named after them.... In most other countries their leaders would have been executed". Washington, Jefferson, Madison were slave owners, established a country which held slaves, and have statues and buildings and cities and states named after them.
