AF, Usually what happens is that they pull someone out that industry and get them a CFA. If we're talking about networkers they may get an engineer (or whoever) from let's say cisco and offer them enough $$$ to go work for goldman or whoever. It's been my experience that most of those characters know to much about the industry and less about how the market works. Also you have to draw a line between buyside analyst and a sellside analyst. A buyside analyst is buying stock to make $$ and could care less what you do, a sellside analyst is selling stock. That mean they spend about 90% of there time on bullshit and 10% on their job. 1/2 the people on this thread sit around blaming the managment, analsyt, or unseen market manipulators for losing $$. The real fact of the matter is that most people don't have any idea what they are doing and spend more time watching ESPN then doing actual research on a company.
