Ironic in the extreme. Although a college graduate myself, and despite his ACT score being only one point shy of a Trustees Scholarship to Ohio State, encouraged #1 son to go to trade school in automotive tech instead. He's left his college friends, and more significantly, his 2 Ivy League educated cousins (one with a doctorate from Penn. Dissertation topic: The micro-chemistry of the human brain) in the dust.

Bot a nice home before he was 26. At 28 he became the youngest repair dept. mgr in the history of the hi end auto dealer he joined right out of trade school. Now 30, he's moved on to open his own VW specialty maintenance garage and is on track to clear 130K his first year. And, already looking for a larger facility by year end. All this is taking place in the relatively lo cost of living context of central Ohio.

Bottom line? As the boomer generation retires, a serious shortage is developing in many of the key skilled trades whose work can't be exported. Fortunes will be made by those with the talent and character qualities to develop successful business models which will capitalize on this important socio-economic trend. I've no doubt Ken is well on his way to achieving exactly that.

All FWIW...
