Best opinion (not advice) I can give you is that gather as much information as possible on Compaq and the industry in general, see if it meets with your objectives and act accordingly.

A company of $35 after split with a current annual revenue of almost $20 Billion and expected q earning of 82c for next quarter.
With the internet everywhere (people buy PCs to access the internet), you read the electronic news papers, magazines, realtime broadcasting, pay your bills, access your bank account ,
remote midication, remote library, remote teleconference, remote education (the future class
room will be on the internet), visual shoppings and department stores, remote presentation,
and many many more applications, but , all in all you need a computer (at least one) to
enjoy those benifit from the revolutionary development in the IT industries.
Nowadays, a manager in US can use the remote monitoring technology to monitor the operation of factory across the Pacific Ocean . We expect the 50 B revenue is a reachable goal
in year 2001, and pls also remember, CPQ's business is not in PCs alone, and just two days
ago the news indicated that CPQ is in a leading position of the NT workstation, and enterprise
server business. The next will be the hand held communication business, and we expect
CPQ to take the leading position again.
As to the Asian currency crisis, the problem is the short term gain can not sustain the short
term debt, the IMF fund will give the Asian fast growing countries a break on their debts.
The basic industrial base and economic base is not change at all. This cris is just short term.
The world is heading toward a new era of IT . Equally speaking, it is the world's third
industrial revolution. The companies which will benefit the most are :INTC (CPU, the brain
of every smart devices), MSFT(operating systems to command the head/brain), CPQ (open
the gate for every family to enter the internet world, the pcS), CSCO ( Pave the high
way for high speed data flow through the information highway), Yaho, AOL (Offer the service for people to access the internet, which offers unlimitted information, technology,
business ...etc ) . So, I would like the CPQ stock at $35 (after split) to answer your
question. So, do not be near sighted, you are now hold a big opportunity of life time, CPQ
will accelerate its growth in the next couple of years as the IT era is saying hello to everyone
!!!!
