<<The company will take charge of $110-$120 million for the fourth
quarter>>
True, but known to the market since October, and presumably discounted somewhere along the way. I would think that GEMS had some motive for the two acquisitions besides an excuse to write off someone else's research.

You expect the price to drop just because earnings are negative? What about the direction of earnings after the charge is taken into account? Seems to me if they can show significant headway after the charge is taken into account the stock may still rise. Very interested in what you have to say on that possibility. Thanks, Gary.

Barry

Gary I believe fridays surge probaly had more to do with this
biz.yahoo.com
than the 3.5 million contract.

gary, nobody cares about the charge. EVERYONE knows it is a one time deal. they do care about OPERATING eps and their perception of what the acquisition will do for future eps growth.

the perception now is that gems' future is heavily weighted in asia and that these acquisitions will stall growth for a little while. nobody cares about the charge, in and of itself. they do care about the cost 9charge)/benefit (what will this charge equate to in eps going forward) ratio.

good luck.
