>A little different from what I heard about Lessig in this thread.

What you saw on this thread were excerpts from Lessig's writings and my interpretation of those excerpts. I'll be the first to admit I could be wrong. But I don't think so.

Just based on the overall tenor of Lessig's writings I do not believe he shares the Chicago School's faith in the unbridled power of the market. And, most importantly, his writings make it very clear that he is skeptical of Microsoft and of private concentration of power in general. He seems to have no compunction about letting the government tell a big corporation like Microsoft how to write software if it serves the public interest.

His writings also make it pretty clear that, on contested issues of software design, he'd just as soon have the court defer to the regulatory authority most closely accountable to the popular will.

Just because Lessig is from the University of Chicago, it does not follow that he buys into the Chicago School's theories.

So for now I stand by my assessment. If someone wants to point me to some convincing evidence or if Lessig wants to post here and say I'm wrong, then I'll change my mind.

Regardless, I would encourage people NOT to take my word for it, but go read Lessig's works themselves. You can bet Microsoft has.

On what does Charles Mueller base his assessment of Lessig's beliefs? From what the article says, not much, other than the fact he hails from the University of Chicago.
