It should not be a voltage difference but may be a power capacity difference. Sometimes the same battery style is used in different models with possibly older chemistry in the batteries themselves and the capacity may be different, meaning it either may have more running time or less than the original. (The incoming voltage to the laptop for charging is no longer an issue as well because most portable devices since 2005 forward use universal switch mode power supplies capable of running off 115-240 VAC and 50/60 Hz which is pretty much every place on earth with the appropriate connector adapter).

The Toshiba part number for your battery appears to be PA3534U-1BRS (for the L455-S5981 model you specified).
