TAMU has some great resources. Google, for example, just loves the Computer Science department. The Ag Sciences are pretty strong. Just to name two that should have a lot of practical spinoffs. Now one company that was in the incubator a few years back produces that do celestial navigation. It takes a few snapshots of the star patterns and pumps out where in the solar system you are. With commercial asteroid exploitation on the near horizon, they could do very well.
