One of my fond memories was a software development conference held in Washington, DC in the 80's. The after hours event was hosted by Microsoft and they reserved nearly every taxi near the convention center. They put you in a taxi which took you to a bar/club in Georgetown that they had rented out exclusively and served open bar and food all night long with live music until about 1:00am whereupon a taxi returned you to your hotel. What an impact they made on the young coders....
