Jane, The Tower of Babel should be The Tower of Babble, I believe the word means "confusion". It's the place where God confused the languages, so the people would not be able to understand each other ,would leave and spread out over the earth. Thus, not gathering in one large city, where sin and corruption could flourish.

There surely must be a lesson here for the large cities of this world we now live in.
