I think a lot of it stems from the total bust that the GOP appears to have going for it in the lead up to 2016

...a Bernie presidency had been sort of a progressives wet dream

With the unravelling of the Republican opposition, fueled by non-stop political screw ups as they try to figure out how idiotic they have to appear to appeal to their base in the race to the bottom of any modicum of common sense, a Bernie alternative suddenly seems possible

The default Hillary choice as the safe bet to at least guarantee a DINO as better than any of the zombie Republican alternatives also appears to be a strategy that warrants re-examination

Bernies historic populism is suddenly resonating at a level that is downright encouraging and making a lot of us take a much harder look at the possibility of actually electing somebody who isn't afraid to say what we believe
