Extreme homophobia is almost always associated with homoerotic denial.

Someone confident in their sexuality (or accepting of their gender/sexuality questioning) doesn't get so excited conspicuously implying how straight-and-superior they are.

This reality of covering up makes them flip out, cause it hits home.
