Optical Cable Corporation Receives Orders Worth $450,000 From Two Distributors in the Far
East

ROANOKE, Va., Dec. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Optical Cable Corporation (Nasdaq: OCCF - news) today announced that it was awarded a total of $450,000 in orders
from two distributors in the Far East. Optical Cable's product was chosen over the competition based on its ability to be used both indoors and outdoors in addition to its
ruggedness and ease of termination.

Both orders are for the Company's Ultra-Fox ''DX series'' distribution style cable. The orders are anticipated to ship during January and will be included in the
Company's first quarter, which ends January 31, 1998.

Commenting on the orders, Robert Kopstein, President and Chief Executive Officer said, ''We are extremely pleased by our continued growth in the Far East, despite
the recent currency and market turbulence. Although both distributors are existing customers, these particular relationships have been developed just in the last few
months. Backed by the high quality and superior performance of our products and our strong sales efforts, we expect to continue to build upon our relationships in the
Far East and in our other international markets as well.''

Optical Cable Corporation manufactures and markets a broad range of fiber optic cables for ''high bandwidth'' transmission of data, video and audio communications
over moderate distances. Optical Cable Corporation's cables can be used both indoors and outdoors and utilize a tight-buffered coating that protects the optical fiber.
