Almost every episode begins with a murder victim, mostly black, designated as a "mother of 7" or a "father of 4", etc. I never noticed it to begin with but my wife pointed out to me, "Do you ever notice how many kids they have?" And it is true. It is very common for a 30 year old black woman to have five or six kids. And a 20 year black guy to have 3 or 4. I saw one where the murderer (not the victim) was 23 bragging about having six kids. It happens with white victims, too, but the sheer numbers seem (anecdotally) to be higher with unmarried blacks. I don't know why this is but it would be an interesting hypothesis as to whether these parents also had parents who lived off the welfare state as most of these clearly do.
