I agree with your 100%. INTC also has lots of different investments besides CPU.

Hey, they don't pay those high paying executives, engineers to do nothing.

Intel is no fool, Grove is no fool. Intel see the fruit in the consumer electronics market (home PCs, smart devices, Video, Audio ...etc), so split its product line into two major cargortary, low end PII (sub0 PCs, smart hand held communication device), high end PII(high end pcs, low end servers, workstations), Mecede (high end workstations, and probably Super computers). So after this arrangement, INTC will have products to fit every customer's need.
The same strategy for CPQ. Just look at the new products they announced recently, then you will know !!!!
