Corel's troubles mount
theglobeandmail.com
One analyst, who asked not to be identified, said Corel's losses are likely to continue unless Michael Cowpland, the company's chairman, president and chief executive officer, is replaced.

"The best thing that can happen to Corel is for Cowpland to leave," said the analyst, adding that it is unlikely that Mr. Cowpland will give up the reins of the company he founded 11 years ago.

Mr. Cowpland danced around the question of his future during a conference call yesterday, but Corel executives later said there is no talk of replacing the Corel chief.

Mr. Cowpland acknowledged his company has had a "difficult year," but said "we have to remember that we've been tackling the world's strongest competitor," referring to Microsoft.

Mr. Cowpland said he is looking forward to an "excellent 1998."

But after so many disappointments, Corel's predictions and promises hold little weight with the financial community, said Jean Orr, a software analyst at Fahnestock & Co. Inc. in New York. "I think they have very little credibility on the Street."

This is from the largest financial paper in Canada. All the micosofties can thank the master of deception MC for this. Could be another tough day on Monday.

No mention of the biggest master of deception move when he said sales were great just before he dump 1/3 of his holdings.

I'm wonder if Cowpland is buy any shares back since he must think they are very attractive with such a rosey picture he paints. He sold at $8 Cdn and now he can pick some up at $2 Cdn. This could be his biggest master of decepion move yet. He probably can't afford it with all his personal debt and all. He probably spent the money buying MS shares. I once thought he was a warrior taking on MS and now he won't even step down. What a loser.

they are still playing games with the numbers to avoid restating revenues for past quarters. (share prices have not responded well lately to admissions of prior fraud - see S3 and IFMX.) the 102MM would be product shipped to distributors this quarter. we have to take their word for it that the distributor channel is not stuffed like a turkey with a pristine and fresh new crumb mix as the old putrid stuffing is recalled and placed in hazardous waste bags for disposal.
