Of course you need investment and innovation. But creating jobs and distributing wealth is not the goal of investors. The Republican answer to the economy is drowning government in a bathtub with social austerity. But they make an exception of $Trillions we don't have, for the active military and weapons systems -- that are too often driven by our pork and campaign quid pro quo system, not good global strategy to succeed, protect our soldiers, and keep the peace. Austerity, or its second cousin, returning to the gold standard, does not stimulate an economy - it only makes extremists and Herbert Hoover fans feel better in their end-of-the-world paranoia.
