Now it is likely that more blacks than whites have been killed in the spike, but they account for about half of all murders, despite being a smaller fraction of the population. It may not. Unexamined here is the question of white on white crime. Except for the murder rate, it is very similar to black on black crime when you look at equivalent levels of poverty. In Appalachia, for example, you have similar levels of petty crime, out of wedlock pregnancies, assault, sexual abuse, absentee fathers, drugs and other indicators of social decay. Now the murder rate is lower, but that probably has to do with white poor people tend to be in a rural environment. Many of those homicides are a domestic dispute that spirals out of control.
