Well, at least there was no nuclear meltdown and biotechs held up fairly well today. In fact, amazingly, despite the 530 point DJIA plunge the smaller-cap SPSIBI was up a smidgen Friday. When the algorithmic executioners quit for the week, at Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 18.79% YTD (vs. up 28.26% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index was up 12.14% YTD (vs. up 20.00% YTD a week ago), while the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index was up 16.45% YTD (vs. up 22.84% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index was down -.63% YTD (vs. up 6.59% YTD a week ago). DANIEL’S portfolio, up 80.66% YTD, remained in the Contest lead (see below for merger-related portfolio adjustments). MOPGCW’s portfolio, up 62.13% YTD, held on to second place and GUERL’s portfolio, up 52.89% YTD, moved into third place. At the week’s close, 43 of the 51 Contest portfolios were in the black with 34 beating the NBI and 29 beating the SPSIBI. The 206 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 11.46% and, after the week’s slash & burn, a median YTD loss of -1.71%. Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the week’s Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks. (Foreign stock prices are not converted to US$ in these Tables.) Portfolio adjustments: TRGT merged into CBIO. DANIEL’s portfolio was only holder of TRGT. The complex merger provided for distribution of $1.6492 per share in cash ($.5692 plus an optional $1.08; Daniel chose to take distribution all in cash rather than shares). Merger also provided for symbol change to CBIO (with name change to Catalyst Biosciences) and 1:7 reverse split, giving former TRGT shareholders 1 share of CBIO for every 7 TRGT shares. The merger closed today, so to better reflect the timing of the real world cash distribution I thought it made more sense to use the 8/28/15 (next Friday) closing prices to reallocate the cash to the other stocks in DANIEL’s portfolio (excluding CBIO). For this week, I added the cash distribution ($6,270.72) to the portfolio value. (All corrections, especially adjustments for buyouts & splits, greatly appreciated.) Have a relaxing weekend biotechies!
