News Services:

I use Reuters, MoneyNet, FastQuote, PCQuote and some others infrequently. However, I have rarely used news intraday, even though a few of those listed are pay services. Generally I check for news releases if I see price or volume action out of the ordinary, but I don't often find that telling. If you study the price/volume action for most sectors, there is a predictable linear pattern to positive movement 2-3 days ahead of th news releases, although some sectors can take weeks to months. I believe Copia and Jenna both trade on News/rumor and they may offer better guidance. The better thing to do is buy on rumor and sell on the news anyway, although in this market, that adage is becoming less reliable. Rumor sources, at least reliable ones ar much harder to come by, guarded fiercely, and never shared. For obvious reasons. the best thing to do is cultivate your own sources within the business/sub-industry/sector you wish to concentrate on. That takes years, but in the meantime, read the trade journals for the sectors you trade in and map the accuracy of the columnists in publishing positive news prior to price increases. this is more work, admittedly, but infinitely more profitable.
