It's both but really it is hypocrisy that is the intolerable one of the two.
Actually, I'm not really sure which is more intolerable. Cheating on a spouse is pretty bad. Even worse if it leads to broken families.

The irony, however, is that those who judge others to be "hypocrites" are often hypocrites themselves. Like you said, they're just piling on for the fun of it, or for the sake of being trolls.

But if someone calls out any sin that they might commit, they'll get defensive and say, "You have no right to judge me!"

Which is absolutely wrong, but they'll never get it.
