it was formed because average (wage earning/tax paying) citizens were sick and tired of having blase' and ineffective republican candidates shoved down their throats. Neeka, the tea party was formed in response to the hank paulson bailouts in sept 2008, before obama was even elected. the bailouts put taxpayers on the hook and that was the objection. we didn't want to be taxed for corporate mistakes. the original boston tea party was in response to taxes too. that's why the tea bags came out and were being waved around during the protests. the tea party was solely formed in response to having had enough taxes. the same as the boston tea party. that's how the tea party got its name. a short time later rick santelli galvanized the movement with his famous rant that can still be found on youtube videos. in the beginning there was no social component to the tea party. it was solely about taxation and fiscal responsibility. it has since been co-opted somewhat by the social conservatives. but the original version was very limited to taxation and government spending.

Contrary to popular myth, the Tea Party wasn't formed because........... By my lights teapers are historically informed and usually way smarter than The Other. That is not the common perception. Voters made mushrooms from grade school on are easily convinced those with an affinity for the liberties we have lost are simply greedy twits and haters. The packages of knowledge motivating tea party types are utterly foreign to their detractors
