Mormon's had first started moving west of the Rockies in 1847 during the war with Mexico. By early 1848, the Mormons’ haven became a U.S. territory after the American victory in the Mexican War. Oh, and the Mormon Battalion was a ragtag bunch of misfits much like present day Mormons. They never did see any action and in fact never even got paid. Brigham Young stole their pay money which he got directly from the US Government. He used part of it to buy a chunk of Utah Territory from a trapper who said he got it through a Spanish Land Grant....which never existed. Nobody cared about the nutty Mormons then or now....Mitt Romney proved that.
