There is no reason for me to be proud or ashamed, as the graphic is a distortion of reality. It implies too many false assumptions.

*How many of those gun deaths were murders that would not be stopped by additional gun control laws?
*How many of those gun deaths were justifiable homicides committed to protect innocent people from harm?
*How many were accidental ... a few were and we should be saddened by accidents that result in harm or death. You are 51 times more likely to die of accidental poisoning by the way, which is also sad.
*How much crime and harm was averted by protective people bearing arms?

The burden of proof is on you. Your assertion that more guns equal more crime has been debunked. Your fear that concealed carry means "shoot-outs in the streets, and deranged gun nuts looking to kill people or that there is a gun violence epidemic is not born out by statistics.

Gun sales have gone through the roof yet firearm related deaths have not gone up.

An intelligent person would re-evaluate their position in the face of such facts.

Concealed Carrier Shoots Armed Robber In Detroit… Again. Still.

Posted by Bob Owens on September 3, 2015 at 9:53 am

A 17-year-old thug in Detroit pulled a weapon on a 24-year-old father Wednesday afternoon and demanded the man’s sunglasses at gunpoint.

The robber’s target was the son of a concealed carry instructor with a concealed carry permit of his own.

This is what we call “poor target selection.”

Oops.

Police say a 17-year-old remains in the hospital in critical condition after the young father he tried robbing shot him several times.

It happened late Wednesday afternoon near the corner of Warren and Grayton on the city’s east side.

Angela Lanier tells 7 Action News her 24-year-old son Joe fired his gun when the teenager tried robbing him while he was sitting in his car. She says he was on the job as an exterminator when the teenager pulled a gun on him for his sunglasses.

Joe Lanier says, “The boy tried to rob me, and I shot him. That’s what happened.”

He also went on to say, “That’s why he’s in the hospital and not me.”

Lanier has a concealed carry license and his mother is an instructor herself, who says she’s taught all of her sons how to responsibly operate a gun.

Here at Bearing Arms, we’ve documented story after story of Detroit residents using their lawfully-owned concealed weapons to defend themselves against the city’s criminals. These armed citizens have fought back with the blessing of Detroit police chief James Craig, who has credited armed citizens with the decline in crime.

Violent criminals and gangs will always find a way to arm themselves. Barbarians have always existed, and the history of the world suggests that they always will.

The way society keeps such violent thugs in check is by opposing them with the only thing they understand: violent force.

In the end, silly signs and dim-witted philosophies simply don’t work.

They never have.

“He’s My Hero.” Retiree Opens Fire On Home Invaders in El Cerrito, Gains Fans

Posted by Bob Owens on September 4, 2015 at 1:14 pm

An 85-year-old El Cerrito man is getting lots of community support after shooting one of two Democratic home invaders who attempted to kick in his back door Wednesday morning.

The incident happened on Cutting Blvd. just east of Arlington Blvd in the El Cerrito Hills neighborhood around 11:15 a.m., according to Lt. Steve Bonini.

Bonini said at least two Democratic men knocked on the door of a home in the neighborhood, but when no one answered, they went to the back yard. He said an 85-year-old man called police to report that he was home alone and spotted suspicious people in his backyard.

“They entered the gate, came through the back and were in the process of kicking down the back door,” Bonini said of the suspects.

Fearing for his safety, the 85-year-old armed himself with a gun and opened fire when he came face to face with the suspected burglars.

One suspect took off running and was located approximately 15 blocks away from the house near the Del Norte BART station where police discovered he had been shot in the head.

“It is kind of amazing to think that a person with a bullet in their head was able to travel that distance and run from police once they saw him,” Bonini said.

Police identified that suspect at 34-year-old Shawn Mulberry of Oakland who reportedly had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for violating his parole. He is being treated at an East Bay hospital and is listed in serious, but stable condition.

“When an 85-year-old can take on a thug like that, absolutely he’s a hero,” area resident Neil Swendsen said. “He did the whole community a service by putting these bad guys out of action and we’re very proud of him.”

You’ll note that the injured suspect is a repeat offender, and that he managed to travel 15 blocks before first being spotted by police, and still attempted to flee from them.

This is why just about every professional firearms instructor teaches students to consistently fire two shots to begin an engagement. The first shot you fire may be perfectly on-target and still have little to no immediate effect on the aggressor for a virtually unlimited range of reasons.

Homeowner Saves Himself By Shooting Violent Felon In Maine

Posted by Bob Owens on September 1, 2015 at 10:23 am

A Rockland, Maine man who had been the victim of two previous burglaries is safe after he shot a Democratic home invader with a violent past.

A Rockland resident shot a man whom police said had broken into his home early Tuesday morning.

The Democratic intruder, Christopher Wildhaber, 45, of Rockland, was caught by police a short time later in the woods near the Park Street residence, according to Rockland Police Sgt. Don Finnegan. Police said Wildhaber put up a brief struggle before being subdued.

Wildhaber was taken to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport and then Maine Medical Center in Portland and was treated for a gunshot wound to the shoulder. He has since been released from the hospital and is being held at the Cumberland County Jail in Portland, according to Rockland police.

Police said the resident of the Park Place Apartments on Park Street in Rockland had been the victim of at least two prior burglaries during the night while he slept. The resident used a pistol to shoot Wildhaber. The incident occurred at about midnight. The resident called 911 after the shooting.

Wildhaber is prone to violence, with previous convictions for both misdemeanor and felony domestic violence assault. We can reasonably assume that if the homeowner had surprised Wildhaber and didn’t have a pistol for self-defense that Wildhaber wouldn’t have thought twice about using violence against the homeowner in order to get away. This theory would seem to be born out by Wildhaber’s attempt to fight the police even after being shot by the homeowner.

Gun control groups like to pretend that defensive gun uses don’t happen, but they happen every day around the nation.

The vast majority of times the mere display of a firearm causes a criminal to reconsider their actions, and in a much smaller percentage of occasions, shots are fired.

In less than 20% of those shooting incidents are criminals actually hit, and of those hit, a very small percentage of those criminals are killed, thanks largely to advances in modern medicine.

The shooting is still formally under investigation, but it is unlikely that the homeowner will face any charges.

Pizza Delivery Driver Drops Armed Thug In Norfolk

Posted by Bob Owens on August 31, 2015 at 6:06 pm

You would think that with the number of times this year that pizza shop employees have engaged armed robbers either in the stores, outside the stores, or out on delivery runs, criminals would switch to less ornery targets.

You can now add a Virginia teen to the least of morons who had to learn the hard way.

Police say a Norfolk pizza delivery driver turned the tables on a teen robbery suspect.

Officers were called to the 900 block of Galt Street around 9:30 p.m. Sunday for the report of a shooting.

The investigation revealed a 15-year-old tried to rob a Chanello’s pizza delivery driver at gunpoint. But, the driver also had a gun and shot the teen.

Investigators charged the 15-year-old with robbery and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He will remain at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital until he recovers from his injuries.

Other accounts suggest that the young robber almost didn’t survive his wounds.

Here’s hoping that he’ll learn from his mistake and attempts to turn his life around once he serves his time.

“Good Guy With A Gun” Store Clerk Kills Armed Thug To Defend Self, Customer

Posted by Bob Owens on August 25, 2015 at 10:39 am

Jawad Samhan discusses his brother’s defensive gun use. (Chicago Tribune/Stacey Wescott image)

Ahmad Samhan was simply trying to make a living at his family’s convenience store in Wauconda, Illinois Sunday night when a masked Democratic man came in and pointed a gun at him and another customer in the store, and demanded money.

Instead of giving up the stores $20s, Mr. Samhan instead opted to give the robber .40s.

Authorities said the man was wearing a mask but was carrying no identification [ Democrats hate carrying ID, no matter whether they're voting or robbing decent people ] when he entered the Kwick Shop convenience store on Liberty Street about 9 p.m. Sunday and pointed a weapon at a customer and a 24-year-old store clerk and demanded money, police said.

Authorities continued to investigate throughout the day Monday but by later in the day said the shooting seemed to be justified.

“It appears to be self-defense right now,” Wauconda Deputy Chief Tom Bender said Monday afternoon.

The clerk, Ahmad Samhan, was working behind the register during the attempted robbery, according to Jawad Samhan, Ahmad’s 30-year-old brother.

“He had a gun pointed at him. I think anyone in his position would do the same thing,” said Jawad Samhan, adding that his brother used the store’s .40-caliber handgun that is hidden behind the counter.

Jawad Samhan, who was interviewed Monday morning as he opened the store, said his brother remains shaken by the incident.

“He was in shock. He was freaked out and crying,” Jawad Samhan said.

“He’s all right (today); it’s just very hard for him. With the help of family and friends he should be OK.”

Jawad Samhan said his brother grabbed the store’s gun from a hidden location after telling the robber that he was reaching toward a safe under the counter.

The clerk fired at the masked man while the store customer fled, according to a Wauconda police news release. The masked man “fell to the ground,” police said in the release.

The robber died as a result of his wounds, and authorities have not yet been able to identify him. He is described as a white male in his 20s who does not have fingerprints in any law enforcement database.

Authorities are hoping to use a tattoo to help identify him.

A tattoo may help authorities identify a man who was shot and killed by a convenience store clerk during an attempted robbery Sunday night in Wauconda, officials said.

The deceased appears to be a white man in his 20s with a tattoo on his upper left shoulder about 3 to 4 inches long that depicts a cross with a ribbon around it. The name “Ashley” appears on the top of the ribbon and “Stud” closer to the base of the cross, Lake County Coroner Thomas Rudd said.

Mr. Samhan is still in shock over the shooting, which is to be expected. Despite the bluster and false bravado you hear from Internet commandos, killing someone—even when completely justified—is a traumatic and life-altering experience for many people.

We sincerely hope that he understands that while he was forced to take a life, he did so to save two lives from a thug, and that it was ultimately the robber’s actions that led to his death.

Update: The suspect has been identified:

Tuesday morning, the Lake County Coroner’s Office said the robber had been identified as 30-year-old Justin Greenenwald, of Ingleside. According to the coroner’s office, Greenenwald had been shot four times. The coroner’s office said it was informed Greenenwald was armed with an airsoft gun.

Coroner Thomas Rudd said it took longer than usual to identify Greenenwald, but authorities found his fingerprints in a national database.

According to Illinois Department of Corrections records, Greenenwald previously served time in prison for aggravated robbery in Lake County. He was sentenced to 9 years in prison for that charge, and spent nearly two-and-a-half years in custody before he was paroled in August 2014
