You can use software to wipe the drives, but this can take a long time to complete. The best bet is get a hammer and chisel and beat the living daylights of the drives, concentrate on the platters. Were eye protection as some have glass platters. Another way is some electronic recycling facilities have hard drive shredders, they will completely destroy the drive into tiny bits of metal.

I would just open up the cases and remove the platters. Nobody is going to reconstruct an old hard drive.
