Yes. Not only is it not ridiculous, it should be common knowledge that Reagan's military buildup played an important role in convincing the USSR it couldn't compete in an arms race and helped lead to the fall of Communism there.

.. WE would have just given up if the situation was reversed. Maybe, we had a lot of people who wanted us to give up as it was.
