Not true - Safeway pays $1 more per hour - but the UFCW union reaches into your check and takes it away. So the net pay is equivalent to Walmart. The fact is both jobs are low skilled jobs - if you want more pay - you should get more skills. I worked at Safeway as a checker in College - it should be a stepping stone not a career choice - unless you work in management or the corporate offices.
