See earlier comment in reply #25,195. Probably worried unecessarily, but see the choice between sacrificing a few shorts and saving a brokerage house (or brokerage industry) as a "no-brainer" for the authorities. The public sure wouldn't weep, in fact most would see it as appropriate "reward" for those evil bears who "caused" them to lose money in a crash. (g)
Can't say as I would disagree with their point of view (big g), given the size of the losses that might be at hand.

Skeeter, i think Early worrys about a severe mkt break where they would change the rules and blame the "evil shorts" . The plunge protection team might fail some day. Mike

Skeeter, I forgot to add that I recall a poster saying the rules were changed on the Hunt brothers. I don't recall the specifics but it was along the lines of the exchange would not allow people to establish new longs and only liquidate existing positions. perhaps someone can fill in the details and elaborate. I'm sure one of the gold bugs knows Mike
