Dale,
That rebate is probably the trigger. But the chart has looked horrible for the last 2-1/2 months. Extremely weak, no buyers rushing in, no support.

We may also be seeing someone clearing the last losers out of their portfolio for year end; but what fund is left to sell?

I wonder if they are preparing a negative announcement? Modems are not hot sellers right now and won't be until the X2/Flex merged standard is available in 3-4 months. Can GVIL survive until then? I was hoping Diamond or BOCA would step forward to buy them at extremely depressed prices but they does not appear to be in the cards. This is no fun at all.

Pete F.

>Maybe the just announced $50 rebates on the 56K PC card modems?

It might be, Dale, but it probably _shouldn't_ be. The $50 rebate is off a Macintosh product that typically sells for $80 - $100 more than its PC/Windows counterpart. GV is still making good profit margins on their Mac products, and this smells more than anything like some combination of: (1) clear the shelves of the old product in time for the new standard next month, and (2) pump up the sales revenue even more before the end of the current quarter. My guess is still that they are going to have a surprisingly good quarter revenue-wise. And since the price cuts have come at the very tail end of the quarter, profits probably have a good chance at following suit and giving us a pleasant surprise.

Looking very forward to the quarterly report next month. Best regards,

Jeff

Dale -
I followed your informative posts on the Fool boards on the company MNPI. That stock turned into quite a winner after many months of averaging down. I hope your technical knowledge will also aid this board and lead us to another buyout. What other stocks do you follow?
