It doesn't matter whether Okies are a race, Jews and Aryans and Semites aren't a race either. So Nazis could use the same defense for their bigotry as you do yours.

Speaking of Colbert, he's a Southerner who painstakingly suppressed the accent he grew up speaking and changed the pronunciation of his last name so it sounds French. He knew that liberal bigotry would relegate any entertainment career for him to the "country" circuit with the Hee Haw, Jeff Foxworthy, Larry the Cable Guy folks.
