Columbia Gas of Ohio Unveils On-line Billing Services COLUMBUS, Ohio, Dec. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Columbia Gas of Ohio customers now can review and pay their natural gas bills on the internet, the company said today. Columbia's ''E-Bill,'' developed in partnership with Checkfree Corp. [Nasdaq:CKFR - news], is an electronic version of the paper bill customers receive. The new service is optional, said Ellen L. Milnes, Columbia vice president of customer service centers. ''The E-Bill is intended to be an alternative to the traditional paper bill for customers who find on-line access more convenient. Customers who elect to use the E-Bill may discontinue that service and return to a paper bill at any time.'' The E-Bill option is free. Milnes said that customers may choose to receive both an electronic and paper bill during 1998, but will be asked to make a choice between the two billing formats at the end of the year. Customers who sign up for the E-Bill also may enroll in an electronic payment service offered by Checkfree, Milnes said. For a small per- transaction cost that is less than the cost of postage, customers are able to pay their gas bills using the internet. The E-Bill and electronic payment service are available to all residential and commercial customers, including those on special payment plans and those participating in the company's program which offers customers a choice of natural gas suppliers. ''Customers have told us they want more convenience and options when it comes to their natural gas service,'' said Milnes. ''This is one way Columbia can deliver the enhanced service and added convenience customers have asked for.'' More information on the E-Bill and electronic payment service may be obtained on the Columbia Gas website at: columbiaenergy.com .
