Information regarding who is going to do SiGe:

Thank you for your response Stu. You are right, if no one makes SiGe chips in significant volume to compete with GaAs, then there is nothing to worry about.

Summary of SiGe "threat" (hype?) from a newsletter:

-Lucent has a new SiGe process for fiber optic lines.
-Temic Telefunken Micro is cutting staff, realining fabs and phasing out half of its IC portfolio to refocus on analog, mixed-signal and RF telecom chips based on SiGe. Temic plans to introduce 8 new SiGe products next year.
-IBM, Harris, Hughes, Nortel and Tektronix are working to bring SiGe to commercial marktets (when???).
-Harris will introduce an RF front end in July '98, and LAN chips in Oct. '98.
-NS is investing heavily in SiGe.

The report claims that "SiGe has the potential to seriously compromise the future of the three GaAs companies (VTSS, TQNT, ANAD).

Any ideas or criticism would be appreciated.
