I saw the x-rays back then and yes, you are right. So fortunately enough the blood supply - or at least a major part of it - was left intact.
That was 12 weeks on crotches with the foot in the air - and then back to training.

I still have a small scar under my chin - where I touched the street. Quite amazing I were able to instinctively land on my arms and keep the head up and away. Now, back then I was super well sports trained and very strong. Also, my reflexes have always been superb. I was racing single man dinghies and sailing at the highest international level in my class. A very athletic exercise in winds.

So lucky I was indeed.
