Re: AP

I was first alerted to the company from a Motley Fool Pod cast as a stock on their radar list. Further research showed that Mario Gabelli is a large investor (owns 1.4mln shares w/ 10.5mln outstanding or 14%ownership) through GAMCO Investors, Inc. and Gabelli Funds.

I also liked their recent acquisition in July that s/d promote future growth.

If you search this thread using the advanced search tool (use the 'AP' search key) that will bring up my detailed posts on the value propositions and further discussion on the company specific issues.

I am now at a full position w/ my last buy earlier this month which now represents a 1.5% portfolio position. Their 6.45% dividend also appears to be safe.

AP: Some stocks keep falling into and out of Graham value. Like old girlfriends who come back into your life.

Relating to a Buffett comment, after many years of looking at companies and stocks, one builds up a knowledge base and gets a sense of value and/or confidence regarding the companies one has investigated and followed over time.

I don't know how I first found AP. I found it again though in 2010 when richardred mentioned it here:

And when EKS mentioned it a few months ago here, it looked to me like it could be time to buy once again.

I like the stock for its balance sheet strength. I don't like that the company's not been profitable for a while (although it has been profitable for most of the past ten years). Nice dividend while waiting and hoping company's fortunes improve.
